New Assassin's Creed Shadows gameplay trailers from SGF 2024 reveal more of the two styles of gameplay as you swap between shinobi and samurai on November 15.

Assassin's Creed Shadows will release on November 15, letting you swap between stealthy shinobi and sword-swinging samurai in 16th-century feudal Japan.

The game follows the real-life historical figure of Yasuke, a retainer of African origin for one of the most powerful daimyo in Japan's Sengoku era – the one that has the best samurai stories.

He teams up with a shinobi called Naoe after the two meet at opposite ends of a battle, when they realize they have aligned goals. I'm sure that uneasy alliance based on convenience will last through the entire story and not be a significant source of conflict anywhere around the end of a second act in the story.

The game will release on PS5 and Xbox Series consoles, as well as Amazon's Luna streaming service, PC and Mac, with an iPad release planned. Pre-orders for standard and gold editions are available now.

Assassin's Creed Shadows editions and pre-orders

There are two physical retail editions of Assassin's Creed Shadows, both for PlayStation and Xbox: The Special Edition, and the Gold Edition. Both come with pre-order bonuses, which are available now.

Assassin's Creed Shadows protagonists

New gameplay trailers shown at Summer Game Fest 2024 reveal more about the dual-protagonist system, in which you unite Naoe and Yasuke against a common foe with their complementary skillsets.

Press releases from Ubisoft to accompany the extended gameplay walkthrough describe both characters and the weapons they'll employ in their uneasy alliance, after starting the game as enemies:

"Naoe embodies the essence of a Shinobi Assassin. From a versatile grappling hook that allows for stealthy in-air assassinations and greater mobility, to kunai and her custom Hidden Blade for swift eliminations, she has access to a diverse arsenal of tools to strike from the shadows. While more vulnerable in close combat, she can skillfully deflect, dodge enemy strikes, and retaliate with lethal precision, using light, her surroundings, and structures around her to topple her foes.

"Yasuke is tailored for direct confrontations, relying on his exceptional combat skills and mastery of Samurai weaponry. Whether wielding the Katana for decisive strikes, opting for raw power with the Kanabo, or engaging opponents from a distance with lethal flint rifle called Teppo, he can handle multiple enemies at once."
