To build up anticipation for Assassin’s Creed Shadows’ November 15 release date, Ubisoft has shared a new breakdown of the 16th-century world the studio has developed for the action-adventure game.

The new World Trailer shows off many of the environments players will be able to explore as protagonists Yasuke and Naoe. Along with beaches, castles, mountains, and beyond, we also get a glimpse at several new elemental systems introduced to the series for the first time. These include the game’s four seasons, which promise to reshape environments dramatically. Landscapes become blanketed by snow in winter, while trees and other foliage burst into colorful life in spring, before phasing through lush green and burning orange in summer and autumn, respectively.

As detailed in our extensive interview with art director Thierry Dansereau, the game will move between seasons once enough time has passed in the world. Fast travel or load at this stage, and you’ll find the landscape has shifted to the next season. From spring to summer, summer to autumn, and so forth. There will also be key narrative moments tied to certain seasons which will push the clock forward for you.

Weather is another major focus in Assassin’s Creed Shadows, with heavy thunderstorms, racing winds, and thick, snowy fog all impacting visibility for both you and NPCs across the land. Wind simulation is a new addition to the series, capable of picking up leaves from the ground and rustling tree branches in a far more realistic manner.

Ubisoft has also stepped up destructibility to meet the fine edged blades that feudal Japan is best known for. As protagonists Yasuke and Naoe take swings at screen doors or bamboo forests, their weapons will cut through in-line with the strike. Great for precision cuts, but you can also just barge through with Yasuke’s brute force if you’re in a hurry. Assassin’s Creed Shadows promises to make more items in the world destructible, and to include NPC reactions to your violent outbursts.
