The Atari 7800+ Is Coming This Winter
Atari and Plaion partnered to modernize the classic video game console from the 1980s.

Following the release of the Atari 2600+ in 2023, Atari and Plaion announced a follow-up console that will once again celebrate retro gaming: the Atari 7800+.
What’s in the box?
Modeled after the Atari 7800 from 1986, the 7800+ will be a more compact version of the system with modern features including HDMI connectivity and a wireless CX78+ gamepad controller. It will be able to play 2600 and 7800 game cartridges in widescreen or 4:3, and it will include a USB-C charging cable (but no power adapter).
The 7800+ will also come packaged with a new game - Bentley Bear’s Crystal Quest - that can be played using a “specially designed 7800 cartridge.” Bentley Bear’s Crystal Quest is the sequel to Atari’s Crystal Castles, which was released in arcades in 1983 and on the 2600 in 1984.
The Atari 7800+ will hit stores around the world this winter for $129.99.
New controllers
With the release of the 7800+, Atari and Plaion will also introduce two new standalone controllers for the Atari+ platform, each priced at $34.99. The CX78+ (the one that comes packaged with the 7800+ system) will feature a D-Pad and removable thumbstick alongside two buttons. The CX40+ wireless joystick, meanwhile, is a recreation of the original CX40 controller with a single button and joystick.
Both controllers will be able to wirelessly connect to the 2600+ and 7800+ systems, and they can also be used with original 2600 and 7800 hardware using an included DB9 wireless adapter. Lastly, both controllers can be used on PC thanks to an included USB-C adapter.
