At a recent Call of Duty: NEXT presentation, Activation offered a preview of some of the features and enhancements players can expect to see in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 during its beta period (which kicks off August 30) and after its full launch in October.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 6
Release Date: October 25, 2024
Black Ops 6 will feature a streamlined Gunsmith experience with the goal of helping players understand all of the bonuses and tweaks a certain part or attachment provides. According to the Call of Duty blog, “The net result of this new system…is that it allows players to make informed weapon-building decisions easily and create effective Builds without constantly needing looking [sic] up “meta” builds online.”
Players will be able to customize their loadouts with returning weapons and equipment along with 12 new weapons that haven’t been seen before in the franchise. Once players create the perfect weapon, the game’s “Global Weapon Builds” system will allow them to carry that same build or blueprint into the game’s different modes, including Zombies and Warzone.
Speaking of Zombies, the NEXT presentation showed off Liberty Falls, one of two Zombies launch maps (the other being Terminus, which was detailed earlier this year). Activision shared the setup for the map’s storyline:
“Players must explore the once-idyllic, now horrific small West Virginian town of Liberty Falls, whose residents have either fled or barricaded themselves into the settlement in a last desperate attempt to survive. By the time you arrive – assumed to be part of the Project Janus forces under the watchful eye of Security Chief John Blanchard – the town is overrun, and the battle seems well and truly lost.”
At launch, Black Ops 6 will offer 16 multiplayer maps spread across two categories: Core 6v6 maps and Strike maps. Eight of these (five Core 6v6 maps and three Strike maps) will be available during the Black Ops 6 beta. You can learn more about each map (and check out screenshots) on the game’s blog.
Finally, the NEXT presentation treated viewers to a preview of Area 99, a new Warzone map coming to Season 1 in 2024. The Call of Duty blog offered an overview of the Area 99 map:
“Much of the scenery and landscape across Area 99 will be familiar to fans of Nuketown, but on a much larger scale. The landscape has main roadways to traverse on foot and in vehicles (though motorized transport wasn’t in the Alpha build on show at Call of Duty: NEXT), while other points of interest on the map are linked by open trenches of sand, pipework, and wiring. The central Reactor bullseye, and the huge crane balancing a Nuketown house in the air, seem to be vying for hot-drop locations, though much of the action is likely to take place in the center of the map.”
Call of Duty: NEXT was chock full of information for fans looking forward to diving into Black Ops 6 for themselves – much more than we can share here. Head over to the game’s website to dive into all of the details.
