The summer Capcom Next 2024 showcase was a focused affair, covering just three games. During the half-hour show we got involved looks at Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess, Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster, and Resident Evil 7's mobile port. Oh, and we were also granted a tiny tease for the next main Resident Evil game. Here’s everything that was shown during Capcom Next.

Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess

First up was the intriguing Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess, which Restart went hands-on with at Summer Game Fest 2024. The latest trailer divulges more explicit details on how this tower defense and action game will work. It shows off how protagonist Soh can recruit and instruct villagers during the day, ensuring that they and the town’s contraptions are prepared to face an onslaught of demonic monsters called Seethe during the night. Both the villagers and Soh can be upgraded with improved combat abilities and roles, ensuring they can take on whatever forms of demons come charging out of the dark.

The most exciting news? Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess has a demo out now on PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, and Xbox One. There’s also an Okami crossover coming that will introduce collaboration outfits, weapons, and music based on the beloved 2006 action-adventure game. If enough players take part in the demo, these items will be added to Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess for free when it launches.

Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster

Next was Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster, which is unleashing its shambling hordes far sooner than we’d anticipated. The remaster releases digitally on September 19, with a physical version arriving later in November.

Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster will boast improved graphics (including a new-look Frank West) and will support 4K at 60fps. Players can also expect a wealth of quality-of-life updates, including the ability to aim while moving, autosaves, additional languages, updated menus, and improved NPC behaviour. But Capcom wants to assure players that this is still the original game underneath.

The September launch will also include a Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster Digital Deluxe edition (try saying that 10 times quickly), which packs in 17 costumes for Frank (some of which look to reference Capcom’s other series) as well as 17 additional music tracks that can play in the mall. Anyone who pre-orders the digital release will get the Dead Rising Original Pack DLC for free. That includes outfits for Frank based on the original game’s visuals, Dead Rising 2 protagonist Chuck Greene, and the Willamette Parkview Mall Bee.

Resident Evil 7 for iOS and Mac

Capcom also showed off the latest mobile port for their Resident Evil series. Resident Evil 7 has been adapted for Apple’s mobile devices, letting players explore the Baker family’s sinister abode in miniature form. A smaller screen doesn’t mean it’ll be any less creepy, mind!

During the reveal, Capcom explained that, while it recommends playing with a controller, it has also revamped touch controls significantly for the port. These now include an auto-fire feature which will shoot your weapon automatically when aiming at an enemy. Resident Evil 7 is available now on iOS and Mac, with the Gold Edition update available on release for those who want access to all the DLC.

The next Resident Evil

Finally, Capcom Next left us with the teensiest of teases for the next main Resident Evil game. Game director Koshi Nakanishi, who led the development of Resident Evil 7, confirmed that a new title was in the works.

“It was really difficult to figure out what to do after 7,” said Nakanishi-san. “But I found it, and to be honest it feels substantial. I can’t share any details just yet, but I hope you’re excited for the day I can.”
