The first gameplay trailer for Dragon Age: The Veilguard shows off dialog wheels, combat wheels, and a wheel-y beloved fan favorite.

After a swift name change and a couple of trailers, Dragon Age: The Veilguard has been unveiled to the world with a release window coming up this fall.

The Veilguard will release on PS5, Xbox Series, and PC – via Steam and Epic Games Store – later this year.

The first entry in Bioware's fantasy RPG series in a decade was previously called Dreadwolf, after everyone's favorite Elven Trickster god Solas, who does make an appearance at the end of today's gameplay trailer.

Also appearing in the gameplay trailer are two of the seven (entirely romanceable) party companions you'll be bonding with throughout the latest saga, and a reveal of the protagonist Rook – who can be customized by the player with one of three classes (warrior, rogue, or mage) and a character creator for lineage, gender, and overall appearance. Rook can also join one of several factions, which unlocks different narrative, dialog, and gameplay interactions, as well as specific perks.

That dialog plays out through choices on a chat wheel, like the RPGs of old, and mid-battle you can choose spells and abilities for both Rook and your companions on a customizable combat wheel. Wheels are back, baby! (Though, if you'd rather not slow down combat with wheels, you can also trigger commands using button shortcuts.)

At Summer Game Fest, Restart learned even more about the game's customization options, such as the ability to choose from multiple difficulty levels and even customize your own difficulty through options like changing the parry window timing.

Overall, Bioware is focused on three key principles with Veilguard: Allowing you to "be who you want to be" by creating a highly customizable character, creating "a world worth saving" with rich environments and a unique visual identity, and giving players the chance to lead a team of "authentic, believable companions."

Check out the gameplay and reveal trailers below, as well as details on the romanceable companion characters and Dragon Age: The Veilguard's story, from the game's official site:

Dragon Age: The Veilguard story

"Solas, the Dread Wolf and Elven Trickster god of legend, wants to tear down the Veil that separates Thedas from the world of demons, restoring his people’s immortality and glory—even at the cost of countless lives. But his ritual goes awry, and his worst fears are realized, as two of his most ancient and powerful adversaries are released. They seek only to finish what they started millennia ago – the complete and utter domination of our world. Rook’s journey to stop these two powerful deities will span across all of Thedas to bustling cities, lush tropics, boreal forests, fettered swamps and the deepest depths, but be wary of the evil forces along the way like the Dark Spawn, Venatori Cultists and Demons of the Fade."
