EA Sports Madden NFL 25
Release Date: August 16, 2024
Boom Tech
Restart: How does Boom Tech change the way players should think about making a tackle?
Clint Oldenburg, Production Director on EA Sports Madden NFL: “Boom Tech is new technology that introduces real-world physics to inform animation selection for 1-on-1 tackles and is the tech behind three new features in Madden 25: Physics-Based Tackling, the Reloaded Hit-Stick, and the Ball-Carrier Balance system.
“Players will experience a feeling of more control throughout tackling, as the system uses physics on every frame to find the most optimal animation before impact, at the point of impact, and for the tackle resolution.
“Players will see a wide variety of dynamic and authentic tackling outcomes they’ve never seen before. And the reloaded hit-stick is a new timing-based mechanic that brings more skill and more reward to landing the perfect hit-stick, fully supported by new tackling sound FX, controller haptics, and real-time feedback.”
Ball carrier system
Restart: What's the most important aspect of the revamped ball carrier system?
Clint Oldenburg: “Based on the size, weight, momentum, speed, player position, and player ratings, ball carriers will have the ability to seamlessly recover from non-square hits based on the situation, while giving players full control of the ball carrier during these interactions. The right stick ball carrier skill moves have also been revamped with new animations and new skill moves that can be chained together to fake out defenders in new ways when making those highlight-reel runs to pay dirt.”
New kick types
Restart: What's the most effective adjustment you can suggest for the new NFL kickoff rules?
Clint Oldenburg: “In Madden NFL 25, we’ve introduced three new kick types to give players the control to decide how they want to strategize around the new rules. These new kick types are: Placement, Deep, and Power Squib.
“Players can kick it precisely in the landing zone to force a return, kick it out of the end zone to avoid a return, but give up extra yardage on the start of the drive, or try to squib kick it into the landing zone to make it harder for the returner to catch the ball.
“We’ve also added the capability for players to change their personnel packages on both the kicking team and return teams to use skill positions, or linemen, and even use non-traditional positions for the kicker and kick returners.”
New Draft experience
Restart: How should players capitalize on the revamped draft experience in Franchise mode?
Josh Looman, Principal Game Designer on EA Sports Madden NFL: “Players can capitalize on the new Draft experience in Franchise Mode by taking advantage of the revamped Prospect Board to easily sort players by key ratings and attributes and then using the easier-to-navigate screen to make their draft picks. Then sit back and enjoy the experience of seeing Roger Goodell on stage as he announces your pick, followed by the player you selected walking out (in a suit) and celebrating with the commissioner. Get instant feedback after your pick is made when the pick you just made is graded in real-time.”
6 on 6 Events
Restart: How does the new 6v6 mode change the Madden Ultimate Team experience?
Kevin Bailey, Production Director on EA Sports Madden NFL: “With 6 on 6 Events, we plan on adding variety to our Ultimate Team programming with a new way to play with your existing Ultimate Team roster. Our players will be able to take on challenges that will have them reconsider how they utilize the guys in their lineup. Someone like Christian McCaffrey in the backfield suddenly becomes even more dangerous with more room to run.
“This also allows for a more approachable gameplay experience for players. With less opponents rushing them at all times, they have time to survey the field and watch a route develop. Additionally, it allows for more player variety in our programming. A player that may be more of a speedster specialist, like Marquez Valdes-Scantling, can be bespoke built to become one of the most powerful weapons in 6 on 6.”
