Emio - The Smiling Man: Famicom Detective Club is now available on Nintendo Switch. The murder mystery game allows players to become an assistant private investigator challenged with solving the case of a murdered student. The twist? The case resembles an urban legend about Emio, the Smiling Man, who was said to give his victims “a smile that will last forever.”
Rather than focusing on fast-paced action, Emio will challenge players to methodically interview key characters and find clues to make their way through the case.
While most of Nintendo’s first-party games offer family-friendly gameplay, it’s worth emphasizing that Emio - The Smiling Man: Famicom Detective Club is rated M for Mature by the ESRB, with Content Descriptors for “Blood,” “Language,” and “Violence.” A lighthearted game this is not.
