Restart is here with some helpful tips to keep in mind as you dive into this Disney-themed remake.

Epic Mickey: Rebrushed is out now, bringing an updated version of the 2010 Wii original to a new generation of consoles.

In Epic Mickey: Rebrushed, Mickey Mouse is sucked into Wasteland, a desolate world he accidentally created after spilling paint and paint thinner onto a diorama created by Yen Sid. Players will need to help Mickey find a way home while battling against a variety of enemies.

Epic Mickey: Rebrushed offers a mix of 3D platformer and side-scrolling gameplay, with tons of hidden areas to discover and collectibles to unlock.

Whether you played the original Epic Mickey or are just experiencing the story with this remake, Restart is here with five tips and tricks to keep in mind as you make your way through the game.

Turn up the (in-game) volume

By default, the volume levels in Epic Mickey: Rebrushed are set pretty low. While this doesn’t ruin the gameplay experience, it will likely require you to crank the volume on your TV or PC to hear what’s going on.

Thankfully, there’s an easy fix for this, as you can navigate to the “Audio” section in the Game Settings menu to turn up four volume levels: Master Volume, Music Volume, Sound Effects Volume, and Cutscenes.

Watch out for sparkles

As you make your way through Epic Mickey: Rebrushed, you’ll collect E-tickets, the game’s currency. Obviously, the more tickets you collect, the better, and thankfully, Rebrushed offers more ways to collect tickets than you may initially realize.

Watch out for subtle sparkles as you explore in-game environments. When you see one, walk over it and one or more tickets will appear for you to collect!

Grab free paint and thinner refills

Epic Mickey: Rebrushed features tons of breakable objects, from barrels and chests to potted plants and statues. While destroying these objects may seem like a bad thing, players are encouraged to do so to collect the items hiding inside. (You can tell an object is breakable if it looks shiny when compared to the surrounding environment.)

The game's breakable objects often contain E-tickets, but other useful items are also sometimes found inside, including paint and thinner refills.

Mickey’s magic paintbrush can only hold a limited amount of paint and thinner, and while it’s impossible to run out (because a small amount of each will automatically regenerate when the brush runs low), it’s always useful to have more paint or thinner on hand than less. This is especially true when facing off against multiple enemies at the same time.

We were pretty thorough as we explored Wasteland, painting everything in sight, and by making sure we broke all of the game’s destructible objects, we rarely ran into the issue of not having enough paint or thinner for the occasion.

Skip cutscenes to speed up your quest to 100%

Since Epic Mickey: Rebrushed allows players to make decisions that impact the way the story plays out, it’s impossible to see and do everything in a single playthrough. If you want to go for 100% completion, you can make your subsequent playthroughs a bit quicker by skipping the game’s cutscenes.

How? Just press and hold the circle button (or the appropriate button on your platform of choice), and you’ll be able to skip the current cutscene to jump back into the action. This can also be done the very first time you play the game, which may be helpful if you’re already familiar with the story from the Wii original.

Use paint for the “best” ending

As we mentioned before, Epic Mickey: Rebrushed allows players to make decisions that impact the world of Wasteland and the game’s overall story. Equipped with both paint and thinner, players can use paint to rebuild the landscape or thinner to destroy. If you want Mickey Mouse to be the “good” guy (and you’re aiming for a happy ending), make sure to use paint whenever possible. This includes during boss fights, where it may seem like the most logical choice would be to use thinner.

The only exception to this rule comes when fighting the game’s robotic enemies, which can only be defeated using a combination of thinner and melee attacks.
