Like an overstuffed box of truffles, the opening show to Summer Game Fest 2024 was crammed with treats we're itching to rummage through. So let’s upend this tub of trailers and take a look at all the new games, updates, and announcements from Summer Game Fest 2024.
Lego Horizon Adventures
Release date: Holiday 2024
First up was a new take on Aloy’s outings in the Horizon series, re-realized in blocky, Lego form. Take down mechanical beasts and help transform corrupted landscapes on PC, PS5, and Switch.
No More Room In Hell 2
Release date: Halloween 2024 (Early Access)
Chivalry developer Torn Banner announced No More Room In Hell 2, a co-op horror game for up to eight players. It'll feature permadeath, a state that far nastier things than just zombies will be happy to inflict on members of your team.
Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions
Release date: September 3, 2024
Next up: a sports game based on the Harry Potter books and film’s broomstick-riding team competition. We have to admit, we were rather hoping this would replicate the real-world interpretation of quidditch that sees determined college students running around holding brooms between their legs. Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions is coming to PC, Switch, PS5, and Xbox Series.
Cuffbust
Release date: 2025 (maybe)
Cuffbust is a co-operative game about (possibly) koalas breaking out of prison via multiple chaotic means. C4, spoons, helicopters, and even surface-to-air missiles feature in the trailer. PC is the only confirmed platform so far.
Star Wars Outlaws
Release date: August 30, 2024
Here’s a biggie: a new trailer for Ubisoft’s Star Wars Outlaws, which lets you explore an open world as a scoundrel. We saw battles on speeders and in space in the short sequence.
Neva
Release date: 2024
From the studio behind Gris comes a beautiful new 2D game called Neva. It follows a woman and wolf cub who travel across a stunning magical landscape filled with wildlife as they strive to fight a dark corruption.
Civilization 7
Release date: 2025
Expand your nation and progress through the ages, all over again! Civ 7 will receive a full reveal later this summer. The game has been confirmed for PC and consoles.
Black Myth: Wukong
Release date: August 20, 2024
A short CG trailer here for action-RPG Black Myth: Wukong, with confirmation of release on PC and PS5, as well as the reveal of a fancy deluxe edition.
Asgard’s Wrath 2
Release date: December 15, 2023
Next was a reminder of VR action adventure Asgard’s Wrath 2, which released in December last year on Meta Quest 3.
Once Human
Release date: July 9, 2024
Once Human is a new post-apocalyptic survival shooter which mixes in unsettling supernatural sci-fi and fantasy elements. It’s coming to PC.
Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2
Release date: September 9, 2024
The Tyrranid hordes await your boltgun and chainsword in Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2’s third person shooter and melee combat. It’s coming to PC, PS5, and Xbox Series.
Metaphor: ReFantazio
Release date: October 11, 2024
The Persona 5 creators return with a new game that is not technically Persona but definitely still feels like Persona in Metaphor: ReFantazio. At SGF 2024, art director Katsura Hashino and artistic designer Shigenori Soejima came on stage to discuss the game. Metaphor: ReFantazio is coming to PC, PS4, PS5, and Xbox Series.
Batman Arkham Shadow
Release date: Fall 2024
A brief return to VR with a trailer for a new Batman game for the Meta Quest 3. We hope you like rats…
Street Fighter 6: Year 2
Street Fighter 6 was up next, revealing some SNK crossover characters for Year 2. Terry and Mai Shiranui will join the game alongside M. Bison and Elena.
Tears of Metal
Release date: Unknown
A new game about a medieval fantasy punch up in Scotland, and it features dragons? Sign us up for Tears of Metal, which looks a little bit like Dynasty Warriors but with overarching progression and tactical elements. It’ll also feature co-op!
Dragon Ball Sparking! Zero
Release date: October 11, 2024
Goku and Vegeta duke it out with pals and enemies in this revival of the Budokai Tenkaichi series. Expect anime-worthy fights with plenty of environmental destruction. It’s coming to PC, PS5, and Xbox Series.
Delta Force: Hawk Ops
Release date: Unknown
The Summer Game Fest 2024 trailer for online military shooter Delta Force: Hawk Ops revealed that the game will include Delta Force: Black Hawk Down, a campaign inspired by the Ridley Scott movie. There’s a global alpha test taking place on PC in July 2024.
Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves
Release date: 2025
SNK fighter fans where shown some love next with a new trailer for Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves. It introduced a few new characters for the upcoming game.
Battle Crush
Release date: June 27, 2024
We received an animated trailer for Battle Crush next. It's a 30-player action brawler in which fights take place on crumbling environments.
Mecha Break
Release date: Unknown
Big, customizable, fighting mechs that transform, shoot guns, and swing swords in multiplayer matches. What more do you want to know? A closed beta test, you say? Well there's one coming August 2024.
Blumhouse Games
Moving beyond horror movies, Blumhouse took to the stage at SGF 2024 to introduce a raft of terrifying games under its publishing banner. These included: Crisol Theater of Idols, Grave Seasons, Sleep Awake, Fear the Spotlight, The Simulation, and a mysterious game called Project C from Immortality developer Sam Barlow and Brandon Cronenberg.
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita’s Rewind
Release date: Unknown
Next: a retro-styled beat ‘em up featuring the Power Rangers. The trailer is worth a watch for the shredding theme tune music alone.
Deer & Boy
Release date: Unknown
Another hard tonal pivot to a game about a boy and a deer attempting to traverse and survive a winter world together.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2
Release date: 2024
The incredibly harsh medieval adventure returns. Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 takes place in medieval Bohemia and follows a young figure attempting to avenge the deaths of his parents. It’s coming to PC, PS5, and Xbox Series.
Slitterhead
Release date: November 8, 2024
At long last a new trailer for body-distorting horror game Slitterhead. It’s coming to PC, PS4, PS5, and Xbox Series.
Killer Bean
Release date: Summer 2024 (Early Access)
A third-person roguelike shooter in which you play as a former assassin. Who is also a bean. No, not Sean Bean; an actual bean.
Cairn
Release date: Unknown
Cairn is a survival climber. That is to say a game that tries to convey just how dangerous scaling large pieces of rock can be. Here’s an interview followed by a trailer.
Wanderstop
Release date: 2024
Stanley Parable and Beginner’s Guide creator Dave Wreden was up next at Summer Game Fest 2024 with Wanderstop. It’s about running a fantasy tea shop and seemingly dealing with the trauma of being a soldier. Coming to PC and PS5.
Unknown 9: Awakening
Release date: Fall 2024
Part of the Unknown 9 multi-medium universe, this supernatural action adventure lets you possess enemies and access other powers of a dimension known as the Fold. It’s coming to PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series.
Monster Hunter Stories & Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin
Release date: June 14, 2024
Monster Hunter Stories is getting a remaster for PC, Switch, and PS4 this year. PS4 players will also finally have the chance to enjoy Monster Hunter Stories 2, as that makes the jump to Sony's platform on the same day.
Enotria: The Last Song
Release date: September 19, 2024
Here’s a look at upcoming soulslike Enotria: The Last Song. It’s inspired by Italian folklore and looks lavish. It’s coming to PC and PS5, and there’s a demo out now.
The First Descendant
Release date: July 2, 2024
Next is a sci-fi third-person shooter from Nexon. It’s coming to PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series, and will support co-op play for up to four players.
Outersloth & Among Us animated series
Among Us developer Innersloth stepped up at Summer Game Fest 2024 to announce a new game fund called Outersloth which will support indie developers. We also got a look at a big bunch of games already under its umbrella and confirmation of an Among Us animated series.
Sonic X Shadow Generations
Release date: October 25, 2024
The blue blur joined SGF 2024 to confirm the release date for Sonic X Shadow Generations. It’s coming to PC, Switch, PS4, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
Dune: Awakening
Release date: Unknown.
Now a story trailer for the Arrakis-set survival MMO from the creators of Conan Exiles. Survive the desert and establish your own base on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series.
Battle Aces
Release date: Unknown
Shaking up the RTS genre, Battle Aces features unit decks players set up prior to matches. It’s fast-paced and aimed to have a low skill floor but a high skill ceiling.
The Finals: Season 3
Release date: June 13, 2024
Online multiplayer shooter The Finals gave us a tease of its third season, which features Kyoto as a setting.
Alan Wake 2: Night Springs
Release date: June 8, 2024
Developer Remedy Entertainment showed off its expansion to Alan Wake 2 at SGF 2024. It contains three episodes taking core characters into unusual alternate events.
New World: Aeternum
Release date: October 25, 2024
Amazon’s MMORPG is getting a massive update this year, making it playable in single player or co-op instead of the original MMO form. The revised version will launch on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series.
Honkai: Star Rail
Developer miHoYo dropped the Art of Dreaming trailer for its sci-fi gatcha game Honkai: Star Rail. It’s for the upcoming Penacony update, which arrives June 19, 2024.
Dark and Darker
Release date: June 7, 2024 (Early Access)
Punishing first-person fantasy PvPvE dungeon-delving game Darker and Darker got a look in during SGF 2024. It’s available on PC now in Early Access
Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess
Release date: July 19, 2024
Tower defense meets action combat in this upcoming game inspired by Japanese mythology. It’s coming to PC, PS5, and Xbox Series.
Hyper Light Breaker
Release date: Summer 2024
Hyper Light Drifter developer Heart Machine returns with its new hack-and-slash roguelike. Enter the Overgrowth to challenge the Abyss King!
Party Animals
Release date: September 1, 2023
Fuzzy animals punched each other some more in a trailer for Party Animals, which is already available on PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series.
Skate
Release date: Fall 2024
I Think You Should Leave comedian Tim Robinson appeared in this trailer for skateboarding game skate, which revives EA’s much-loved series about scooting around on a skateboard.
Palworld: Sakurajima
Creature collection open-world survival game Palword let us see its first major update, Sakurajima. It will add a new island inspired by Japan and filled with new Poké-, wait, sorry, Pals to collect.
Valorant
Release date: 2024
Riot’s tactical FPS is coming to consoles! Specifically, to PS5 and Xbox Series. A beta will run from June 14, 2024, so sign up now if you’re keen.
Monster Hunter Wilds
Release date: 2025
Series producer Ryozo Tsujimoto took to the Summer Game Fest 2024 stage to chat about the hotly anticipated Monster Hunter Wilds.
Phantom Blade Zero
