Publisher Microids is preparing to release Empire of the Ants on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC. Developed by Tower Five Studio, the game is based on the 1991 novel of the same name written by Bernard Werber.
In Empire of the Ants, players will help an ant colony survive in a forest filled with resources to collect and enemies (like termites) to avoid. In the game’s story mode, players are challenged to help an ant guide their colony through a series of missions, with both combat missions and exploration missions being available.
During each combat mission, players can control multiple ant legions, each with a different function. Warrior ants can attack enemies directly, workers can gather helpful resources to bring back to the colony, and so on. Players will also have access to upgrades that can help them complete tasks.
Exploration missions, meanwhile, ask players to explore the environment around the ant colony to find food, man made objects (like a soccer ball), and more.
According to Microids, the game’s story will take between 20-25 hours to complete.
Outside of the game’s single-player story mode, multiplayer features allow players to compete in one-on-one multiplayer matches, three-player “free-for-all” matches, and custom games in private lobbies.
Empire of the Ants will be released in Standard and Digital Deluxe editions. The latter includes a digital artbook, digital soundtrack, digital wallpapers, and three days of early access to the game.
