At Summer Game Fest, Restart checked out a behind-closed-doors demo for FragPunk, a free-to-play 5v5 shooter from NetEase and developer Bad Guitar.
Fragpunk features bomb defusal gameplay, with each round lasting 2.5 minutes. For the unfamiliar, this mode challenges one team to set and defend a bomb while the other team tries to defuse it.
During each round, players can choose from 10 heroes (each with different abilities) and a set of 15 weapons, and they’re free to experiment by mixing and matching different characters and weapons until they find the combination they like most.
Before each round, both teams can activate up to three Shard Cards that will trigger a variety of offensive and/or defensive bonuses during the upcoming battle. At launch, the game will feature more than 70 Shard Cards to experiment with, including two of our favorites: one that causes the enemies’ heads to balloon to comical sizes, making it easier to land headshots, and another that places a literal turtle onto players’ backs, giving them extra protection.
FragPunk comes to Xbox Series and PC in 2025, but players can get their hands on the game early by participating in its first Closed Alpha Test on Steam from June 27 - July 1. Registration for the Closed Alpha Test is now available for players in North America on the game’s website, or players can request access through the game’s Steam page.
