Awards season is now underway in the gaming industry, bringing with it a bad case of the GOTYs. Soon, official art across the internet will burst out in a rash of text declaring winners and nominees. There's no avoiding it, so you might as well engage with feverish delight. As ever, the first major show to begin oozing awards was the longstanding Golden Joysticks.
In the public-vote-driven awards show's 42nd year, Black Myth: Wukong took the most prized title of Ultimate Game of the Year along with the award for Best Visual Design. Helldivers 2 and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth each did admirably too, bringing in a fine batch of four awards apiece. But there were plenty more results to celebrate alongside them! A quick note - Unlike many other awards shows like The Game Awards, the Golden Joysticks are primarily determined via online public vote rather than critical and industry panels. As such, the results here may differ noticeably from other announcements of the season. More than 12m votes were cast to determine the winners. In crowning the ultimate game of the year, we were also treated to a hint about the near future.
