Arriving languidly after the other summer showcases – check out our Summer Games Fest 2024 hub for all that jazz – the June Nintendo Direct was our insight into what will be occupying our Nintendo Switch screens until the console’s successor arrives next year. What’s on the way? Quite a lot it it seems, including Mario & Luigi: Brothership, The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, and Metroid Prime 4: Beyond! Mario & Luigi: Brothership
Release date: November 7, 2024
If Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door didn’t satisfy your thirst for RPGs starring plumbers with mustaches, the June Nintendo Direct opened with great news! Mario & Luigi: Brothership continues the red and green partnership in a brand-new adventure with plenty of turn-based team attacks and comedy moments. And is that an entire island that's also a ship? We're already eager to jump aboard.
Nintendo World Championships NES Edition
Release date: July 18, 2024
Next up: More than 150 speed challenges from 13 NES games, all packed into this upcoming retro collection.
Fairy Tail 2
Release date: Winter 2024
Fans of the Fairy Tail anime can look forward to another Switch outing later this year. It concludes the anime's Alvarez Empire arc.
Fantasian Neo Dimension
Release date: Holiday 2024
Next in the June Nintendo Direct was a trailer for a port of 2021’s mobile RPG Fantasian. It’s from Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi and features a score from composer Nobuo Uematsu.
Nintendo Switch Sports basketball update
Release date: Summer 2024
Prepare to hit the court for two-on-two matches in Nintendo Switch Sports. Basketball will be added to the motion-controlled game’s sports selection in a free update arriving this summer.
Mio: Memories in Orbit
Release date: 2025
Here’s something entirely new: a beautiful 2D metroidvania with pencil art set on a gigantic drifting spaceship. If the trailer’s music is anything to go by, it’ll feature a fantastic soundtrack.
Disney Illusion Island: Mystery in Monoth
Release date: June 18, 2024
Kid-friendly platformer Disney Illusion Island has a free update out now. It’s called Mystery in Monoth and sends Mickey and friends off on a new case-solving adventure.
Hello Kitty Island Adventure
Release date: 2025
Hello Kitty tries its hand at the Animal Crossing formula in this cutesy Nintendo Switch console exclusive (it released first on Apple Arcade last year). Make pals, craft items, and explore exciting locales on Friendship Island.
Looney Tunes: Wacky World of Sports
Release date: Fall 2024
The Mushroom Kingdom isn’t the only place hosting unconventional sports tournaments. Looney Tunes: Wacky World of Sports will let the cartoon critters compete at arcade takes on soccer, tennis, basketball, and golf. It’ll support up to four players in local co-op.
Among Us update
Release date: June 18, 2024
New Crewmate and Imposter roles have been added to social deduction and deception game Among Us. For the Crewmates, the Noisemaker alerts everyone when they’re killed, while the Tracker can follow the movements of one other crewmate on their map. The Imposters gain the Phantom, who can turn invisible for a brief period.
Farmagia
Release date:
Grow monsters as crops and then train them to take down gigantic beasts as you battle against the villainous Magus in Farmagia. Great if you wished Pikmin featured far more sharp teeth.
Donkey Kong Country Returns HD
Release date: January 16, 2025
The Wii’s superb solo or co-op platformer is getting a re-release for the Switch early next year. Donkey Kong Country Returns HD will include the extra levels which were added in the game’s 3DS version. A must for platforming fans who missed the original.
Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake
Release date: November 14, 2024
Square Enix’s eye-pleasing HD-2D art style has been applied to the classic RPG Dragon Quest III, which launches hero Erdrick’s storyline. Better yet, Dragon Quest 1 & 2 HD-2D remake is in the works for 2025.
Funko Fusion
Release date: September 13, 2024
Funko's myriad of collectible figurines unbox in-game later this year. Funko Fusion will let you pick from a wealth of Funko figures and play out action-adventure stories based on movies and TV shows like Jaws, Back to the Future, and Shaun of the Dead.
Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD
Release date: June 27, 2024
Next was a rapid reminder of Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD, which lets Mario’s fearful bro vacuum his way through his second spooky mansion later this month.
The New Denpa Men
Release date: July 22, 2024
The unusual 3DS RPG series is revived on Nintendo Switch. Collect a crew, style your island, and embark on adventures when it arrives as a free-to-play timed console exclusive.
Metal Slug Attack Reloaded
Release date: June 18, 2024
The Metal Slug series tries out tower defense in Metal Slug Attack Reloaded. This port of a mobile release challenges you to build up a deck of soldiers to assault your rivals' bases and fight back against their onslaughts.
Darkest Dungeon 2
Release date: July 15, 2024
Stylistic roguelike Darkest Dungeon 2 will invite Switch players into its decaying land next month. Prepare your party for the horrors they’ll surely encounter ahead, and the scars they'll be left with afterwards.
Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack additions
Release date: June 18, 2024
Subscribers to the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack were in for a treat during the June Nintendo Direct. A new slate of classic games joins the online collection today, including The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past and Four Swords, Metroid Zero Mission, Turok: Dinosaur Hunter, and Perfect Dark. It’s the perfect opportunity to catch up on the latter before the new Perfect Dark game arrives. Perfect Dark and Turok will be made part of a new Mature 17+ collection.
Phantom Brave: The Lost Hero

Tactical, turn-based RPG Phantom Brave had a surprise sequel announced during the Direct. Phantom Brave: The Lost Hero encourages you to combine phantoms with nearby objects to create powerful effects that can swing fights in your favor.
Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics
Release date: 2024
The much beloved Marvel vs. Capcom fighting game series and several spin-offs arrive together in a new Switch bundle. Included in the collection are X-Men: Children of the Atom, Marvel Super Heroes, Marvel vs. Capcom: Clash of Super Heroes, Marvel vs. Capcom 2: New Age of Heroes, Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter, X-Men vs. Street Fighter, and The Punisher.
Super Mario Party Jamboree
Release date: October 17, 2024
Prepare to destroy what friendships you have left, because a brand new Mario Party game is on the way. Super Mario Party Jamboree promises to mix new and old boards with a large selection of all-new minigames, some of which will utilize Joy-Con controls. It’ll also pack in several new modes, including the online-only Koopathlon, in which up to 20-players compete to be the last standing.
The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom
Release date: September 26, 2024
Princess Zelda gets her own adventure at long last courtesy of The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom. A top-down Zelda game, it shares the art style of the Link’s Awakening’s Switch remake. After Link falls into a dark rift, Zelda partners with a small spirit and sets out to save the kingdom herself. That union grants Zelda the ability to copy nearby objects as Echoes. She can even copy Monsters, making them fight by her side. A new Hyrule Edition of the Switch Lite will be released on the same date.
Just Dance 2025 Edition
Release date: October 2024
A Nintendo Direct staple next as we received confirmation that Just Dance 2025 Edition will be coming to Nintendo Switch. The announcement trailer showed off several tracks, and that different levels of choreography difficulty will be available.
Lego Horizon
Release date: Holiday 2024
Horizon games on Nintendo Switch? You betcha. In Lego form, anyway. As announced during Summer Game Fest, Lego Horizon Adventures will let you explore Aloy’s world solo or in local co-op.
Stray
Release date: Holiday 2024
Sci-fi kitty cat adventure Stray pounces over to Nintendo Switch. It’s a great game, but the fact that it has a dedicated meow button is the real reason to get it in your paws.
Tales of the Shire: A Lord of the Rings Game
Release date: Holiday 2024
Tales of the Shire will let you establish your ideal hobbit hole and then invite the neighbors around for dinner. It looks like a lovely time in this latest trailer. Here’s hoping Saruman doesn’t show up to gatecrash your birthday.
Ace Attorney Investigations Collection
Release date: September 6, 2024
Miles Edgeworth’s run of legal battles gets a remaster in Ace Attorney Investigations Collection. It packs Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth and Ace Attorney Investigations 2: Prosecutor’s Gambit into a single release, the latter of which has yet to release in the West.
The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy
Release date: Early 2025
A group of anime teens must defend their school from monsters for 100 days, all the while managing deadly allegiances and mysteries on the inside. If the art style didn’t give it away, The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy is coming from from the creators of the murder mystery visual novel Danganronpa games.
Romancing Saga 2: Revenge of the Seven
Release date: October 25, 2024
SNES RPG Romancing Saga 2 is next on the remake roster. Revenge of the Seven sees a fantasy land threatened by vengeful spirits of past heroes. Will your decisions placate their wrath?
Metroid Prime 4: Beyond
Release date: 2025
In a classic just-one-more-thing moment, the June Nintendo Direct for 2024 closed with a trailer for Metroid Prime 4: Beyond. Yes, it’s actually happening, and we’ve even got gameplay this time! Check out our first look at Samus Aran’s next 3D outing below.
