Nintendo has released a special Direct showcasing a walkthrough of the new Donkey Kong Country expansion to the Super Nintendo World area of the Universal Studios theme park in Osaka, Japan. The new region to Super Nintendo World is set to open on December 11, 2024.
Led around the additional park segment by none other than Shigeru Miyamoto himself, we’re treated to a full tour of the Donkey Kong Country exhibit attendees will soon get to explore. Heading from the Mario to Donkey Kong section involves passing through a a tunnel which shifts from orderly bricks to stone walls before opening into a jungle-like environment.
Donkey Kong fans will be met with the Donkey Kong Country HD theme – which we’re still waiting for on Nintendo Music – as they enter a landscape packing bamboo cabins, stone temples, and plenty of groovy music.
Inside the new attraction, attendees can take part in activities including beating out a rhythm on some large conga drums to summon Rambi the Rhinoceros and exploring the golden temple to take a cart ride through one of DK’s iconic barrel cannons.
Where the Super Mario section features One-Up blocks that attendees can interact with using a special wristband, the Donkey Kong Country park region includes hidden KONG letters which can be scanned to record progress in the park app. Naturally, there are also DK-themed food stands selling banana-based dishes, a Funky Kong store selling DK merchandise, and an impressive DK mascot to hug and take photos with.
Here's the official description of the new park expansion:
Step foot into an unknown, wild space with lush greenery.
In this jungle where Donkey Kong and his friends live, you can hop on a mine cart from The Golden Temple for a thrilling ride through the mines, challenge yourself at a play experience using your whole body, and have loads of other wild adventures!
Plus, you can check out all the food and merchandise in the middle of the jungle!
Awaken your instinct to play and enjoy all the fun and surprises that the world of Donkey Kong has to offer!
There’s a wholesome delight to see Miyamoto, creator of the original Donkey Kong arcade game, showcasing the park four decades after the tie-wearing gorilla's iconic cabinet released. Now, if anyone has some flights to Japan handy, there’s a large banana-loving friend we’d love to introduce you to this December…
