Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl's latest gameplay trailer focuses on the high-risk, high-reward nature of the Exclusion Zone, with opportunities for those willing to brave its paranormal anomalies.
Ukrainian developer GSC Game World is committing to the delayed September 5 release with a detailed look at gameplay in the photorealistic post-apocalypse shooter.
Mutants, radiation, other liquidators, and anomalies too confusing to be described await a lone Stalker named Skif as they enter the Chornobyl Exclusion Zone after a second massive explosion in 2006. Now, there are warring factions for you to carefully choose to side with, and a non-linear branching narrative with multiple endings.
The game's world has vastly outgrown its original map since 2009's Call of Pripyat, extending out to 64 square kilometers and featuring more than 30 weapons types with modifications.
After years in development (and several false starts owing to rights issues, studio splits, and an actual war breaking out along Ukraine's Eastern front) GSC has also focused on the modifications players will be able to make to the game themselves, a staple of the original's popularity on PC.
Here are the key features of Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl, as described by official GSC Game World sources:
- Unique gameplay built on a blend of first-person shooter, horror, and immersive sim.
- Non-linear story with a variety of paths that lead to one of several endings.
- Benchmark-setting graphics, developed using cutting-edge photogrammetry and scanning technologies.
- Advanced artificial intelligence systems that will keep even the most hard-boiled players engaged.
- Life-simulating system “A-life 2.0” that makes the game world feel alive as never before.
- Immersive survival mechanics like hunger, sleeping, bleeding, and radiation effects that enrich the gameplay.
- Dynamic day-night cycle and weather will add even more realism to the gameplay experience.
- Mod support gives the freedom to creative players to extend and enrich the game universe.
- Multiplayer mode will be added soon after release as a free update.
