In a 15-minute gameplay deep dive, Bethesda showed off some of Indy's signature moves, with brain, brawn, and bravado, ahead of December 9 release.

Indiana Jones and The Great Circle is mere weeks from release, so publisher Bethesda and developer MachineGames have deigned to let us see some detailed gameplay in a deep dive uploaded to YouTube Monday.

Some stand-out details include Indy getting a second chance at life if defeated in combat as long as he can crawl over and pick up his fedora. So that's why he was always so precious about it in the films.

The footage shows off some of the exploits Indy will be getting up to in the globetrotting adventure, sparked after the theft of an artifact from his college back home. It probably should have been in a museum.

Puzzle-solving is a must, and there's plenty of archaeological brain-scratchers for you to get stuck into when Indy releases on Xbox and PC on December 9 (with Game Pass access day one for the appropriate subscription tier).

The gameplay deep dive, as narrated by Machine's audio director Pete Ward, also shows off some of the first-person melee combat which hopes to capture some of the slapstick, improvisational action from the film series. Grab whatever's nearby and slap a Nazi with it, or use your whip to stop them from drawing a gun on you when spotted trying to sneak by in the shadows, or disguised as a priest.

Lots of the footage gives off a vaguely immersive sim vibe, similar to some of the more open missions in Machine's previous games in the Wolfenstein series. Lots of side objectives, too, with collectibles to find and secret tombs to unlock. The game's official description also mentions this split between gameplay styles:

"Venture through a dynamic mix of linear, narrative-driven gameplay and open-area maps. Indulge your inner explorer and unearth a world of fascinating secrets, deadly traps and fiendish puzzles, where anything could potentially hide the next piece of the mystery—or snakes. Why did it have to be snakes?"

You can check out the gameplay above and pre-order below, if that seems like the sort of campy fun you're looking forward to diving into over the holidays this year. If you're a PlayStation gamer, you'll need to wait until next year as, despite Microsoft owning the publisher, it will arrive on PS5 in Spring 2025.
